Reston Families Donate 1,229 Pounds of Halloween Candy as Dr. Tisseront Gives $1,464 to Children’s National

RESTON, VA — November 4, 2026 — More than half a ton of Halloween candy found a new purpose this week thanks to Northern Virginia families. At the 19th Annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back on November 2, Tisseront Orthodontics collected 1,229 pounds of candy and is donating $1,464 to Children’s National Hospital.

Hosted by Dr. Stephan Tisseront and his team at their practice in Reston, the annual celebration invites local children and families to turn extra Halloween treats into an act of generosity. The candy is collected with the intention of supporting care-package efforts for U.S. service members overseas, while the charitable contribution supports children and families receiving care at Children’s National in D.C.

“The most rewarding part of the event is seeing children discover that something as simple as sharing their extra candy can make a difference,” said Dr. Tisseront. “Our community shows up year after year with so much enthusiasm, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helps us turn Halloween into an opportunity to give back and share smiles with others.”

When a Community Gives From the Heart

Among this year’s standout contributions, a Girl Scout group from Maryland brought more than 100 pounds of candy, and the German International School Washington D.C. contributed over 200 pounds. Their generosity showed how this Reston tradition brings together families and young people from across the greater Washington region.

One family’s donation was especially touching as they brought in 43 pounds of Halloween candy, keeping just a few pieces for each child, done on the own choice of the children. It was a small choice with a big message; that the sweetest part of Halloween can be what you share with others.

A Sweet Tradition, 19 Years Strong

What began as a seasonal community activity has grown into a familiar Reston tradition. Each year, neighbors come together not just to part with leftover sweets, but also to support a cause close to home and share a gesture of appreciation with those serving abroad. This year’s collection of 1,229 pounds shows just how much impact those individual contributions can create.

The November 2 celebration also featured family-friendly activities, including face painting and a raffle for Meta glasses and locally owned business donations. For the Tisseront team, the event is one of the many ways they connect with families beyond the orthodontic chair.

More Than Beautiful Smiles

Dr. Tisseront has cared for Northern Virginia orthodontic patients since 1998. Alongside personalized treatment for children, teens and adults, his practice supports local schools, youth activities and many other community initiatives. The Halloween Candy Buy-Back reflects the team’s belief that a healthier, more confident community starts with people looking out for one another.

“Our patients are our neighbors,” added Dr. Tisseront. “Being part of their lives means us showing up for the community, too.”
